Five Days in Paradise: My Trip to Sandals Royal Bahamian BahamasHello, friends! I’m straying a bit from my usual inspirational-type blogs to do something a little more fun! As you may have already read in an earlier blog here, my husband and I recently returned from a trip to an all-inclusive resort, Sandals Royal Bahamian. I wanted to share a few more details about our experience – the good (most of it), the bad (well, a little), and the ugly (mainly just consisting of sunburn and sickness). Below is my report for Day 4.

DAY 4: Beach bumming & candle light dinner…

After a late night for both of us the night before, we decided to sleep a little later and order room service for breakfast. It came quickly, but was just okay. My crepes were more like rolled up pancakes. Scott said his breakfast sandwich was pretty good. But this was yet another sign that we should have eaten the buffet every morning. We did not make the same mistake again.

Today we planned to just relax for the most part, since this would be our last full day.

We wanted to visit the beach but didn’t want to wait for the ferry to go to the private island, so we opted for the beach there in front of the resort. It was actually pretty nice, the weather was perfect, and we had a chance to soak up the ocean view and sounds for one last time. We spent pretty much all of our day between the beach and the pool (the party/warm one this time), and had lunch at the Royal Cafe where we had lunch the first day. This time it was just okay. Maybe it was because we weren’t just arriving like the first time, and we didn’t have the first day excitement. It was filling enough, though.

Obviously, we took a nap in the afternoon, but I don’t remember much else about that day, at least up until just before dinner. I do know that Scott got the kind of sunburn we saw on other people that we swore we would not have. (I mean, we used SPF70 for crying out loud.) He managed to get through the evening, and felt a lot better the next day.

Early in the evening, we decided to take advantage of a photo shoot offered to us that included a free 5×7 photo, which was probably the last thing Scott wanted to do on our final evening, but he suffered through for me because he’s just that great. We did get some good shots out of it.

After the photo shoot, we went to the British pub, The Cricketer’s Pub, which by the way, is an actual British pub that was deconstructed in England and brought over to be reconstructed at the resort. Scott thought that was very cool, and appreciated all the Beatles memorabilia that was there due to the fact that they shot one of their movies there. There was actually a lot of British influence at the resort (including a cool phone booth) and many facts and pictures of British/Bahamas history posted on the walls here and there. At the pub, we had appetizers, because I had heard about these amazing wings (that actually were quite good), and a sticky toffee pie that sounded better than it was. We weren’t eating until 7:00 that night – we are early eaters at home – so this tied us over until dinner. The dinner was the amazing part of the evening.

Two of Scott’s co-workers (who happened to be married to each other) paid for Scott to treat me to a dinner on the beach, with the ocean sunset as our view. We had personal servers and a personal chef (who catered to us and a few others who were having dinner on the beach, too) as we dined on four courses that included crab cakes, shrimp balls, steak, lobster, yummy sides, and dessert. It could not have been more magical, and was such a perfect way to end our romantic getaway. If you have the extra money, I would highly recommend the candle light dinner on the beach.

The rest of our night mostly consisted of packing and getting ready to end our paradise excursion. I’ll have one more day to add for our last few hours there, as well as a wrap up, some of the things there that we didn’t do, and some tips and final thoughts.

Day 5: Heading home & final thoughts…
