Five Days in Paradise: My Bahamas Trip (Day 4)

Five Days in Paradise: My Trip to Sandals Royal Bahamian BahamasHello, friends! I’m straying a bit from my usual inspirational-type blogs to do something a little more fun! As you may have already read in an earlier blog here, my husband and I recently returned from a trip to an all-inclusive resort, Sandals Royal Bahamian. I wanted to share a few more details about our experience – the good (most of it), the bad (well, a little), and the ugly (mainly just consisting of sunburn and sickness). Below is my report for Day 4.

DAY 4: Beach bumming & candle light dinner…

After a late night for both of us the night before, we decided to sleep a little later and order room service for breakfast. It came quickly, but was just okay. Continue reading “Five Days in Paradise: My Bahamas Trip (Day 4)”

DAY 3: Venturing outside the resort…

We had already decided that today would be a shopping day in downtown Nassau. We decided we would have a sit-and-be-served breakfast at Bacarrat, where we had such an enjoyable dinner earlier. The food itself was great, but service was a bit slow, and those same windows they sat us in front of for dinner a couple of nights earlier were brutal when the sun was pouring in from them in the morning. (Maybe they could add some shades for breakfast service?) We actually spent our indoor breakfast wearing sunglasses. Again, a sign that we should have eaten the buffet every day.Continue reading “Five Days in Paradise: My Bahamas Trip Review (Day 3)”

DAY 2: Private Island Paradise

We slept in a bit the second morning…because we could! Unfortunately, I woke up with a major sore throat and just feeling a little puny. It would not bode well for the entire trip, but I tried really hard to be a trooper.Continue reading “Five Days in Paradise: My Bahamas Trip Review (Day 2)”

Enthralling the King: Finding Our Worth in the One Who Made Us

“Let the king be enthralled by your beauty…” – Psalm 45:11

Let me be completely real with you right now. I’ve never thought of myself as beautiful. Even as a child, I was the tomboy who never cared that much about what I wore or what my hair looked like. I had two best friends growing up and I always thought they were so beautiful. I was the frumpy one.

I had many other good qualities, which I realized even back then. I was smart and made good grades. I was creative. I was always involved in sports, yearbook, drama, chorus. I knew that I could sing well from the time I was little. But physically attractive? Nah. Continue reading “Enthralling the King: Finding Our Worth in the One Who Made Us”

Being Audacious: Why Aren’t We Bolder in Prayer?

Do you ever sometimes wish you could be more like your children? I’m not talking about grown-up children. I mean the little ones. And not just in the child-like faith that Jesus talks about in Scripture.

My little guy is bold. He has absolutely no trouble asking for exactly what he wants. (Seriously, he is precise. “Mommy, can I have three gummy bears, please. No, two. No, three. Yes, three gummy bears.”)Continue reading “Being Audacious: Why Aren’t We Bolder in Prayer?”

My Papa and His Sunday Morning Victory: The Hope Found in Easter

“It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed…” – Luke 23:44-45a (ESV)

I have to admit to you that I don’t have the greatest memory known to man. But there are certain events, and even particular moments, I remember from the distant past that are as real to me as if they had happened yesterday. One of those moments was the morning that Papa Henry died.Continue reading “My Papa and His Sunday Morning Victory: The Hope Found in Easter”

Trusting God With Our Treasures

“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” – Matthew 6:21 (ESV)

My husband and I just returned from a five-day trip to the Bahamas, which he earned through his job. It was certainly one of those “dream vacations” that you imagine you might be able to take someday. We went to an all-inclusive resort where we were pretty much treated like royalty from the first minute. We stepped off the shuttle that had brought us from the airport and were greeted with lemon-scented, cool, wet towels, and then ushered into a beautiful reception area where we didn’t have to stand in line to check in. A Letter to My Hard-Working Husband

To my precious husband…

I must admit, sometimes I wish things were different. I compare myself to others on social media and think…

“Wow, it was nice that her husband sent her flowers for no particular reason.”

“Oh, and how thoughtful to surprise her with tickets to that show.”

“He must really love her to go out and buy her those shoes she’s had her eye on.”

And the enemy creeps in and tells me I’m missing out on something. But you know what? I love us. I love who we are. I love who you are.Continue reading “A Letter to My Hard-Working Husband”

Overwhelming Love: Our SPD Story

“I believe it might be Sensory Processing Disorder.”

Those were the words from the school psychologist referring to my son. I knew something was wrong. He obviously had some challenges we had never picked up on before the last couple of months.

But let me back up a little…Continue reading “Overwhelming Love: Our SPD Story”
